Owner Rod Kneller’s start as a chimney sweep is an interesting story. In 2001, Rod hired Bill Klein, founder of "Bill Klein’s Chimney Sweep", to service the chimneys at his house, and became one of Bill's loyal customers. Fast forward ten years and Rod was searching for a career change, Bill just happened to be searching for someone to pass the torch to.
The National Fire Protection Administration (NFPA) has stated that even 1/8th inch of creosote in your chimney can be a fire hazard to your home. A buildup of creosote can catch fire inside your chimney, resulting in a 2,000 degree full-blown chimney fire. These infernos can wreak havoc on your chimney, often times escaping into the attic, walls, roof, etc.
The first step to preventing a chimney fire is removing the creosote deposits which are a natural byproduct of burning wood. Sweeping away these deposits is the primary role of a chimney sweep.
Yes. Although the flue in a gas fireplace stays much cleaner than that of a woodburner, it is still important to service all types of gas units to maintain proper performance and peak aesthetics.
The NFPA recommends an annual inspection by a certified professional for any woodburning or gas appliance in your home. The need for maintenance upon inspection will depend on a variety of factors, including: type of appliance, age of unit, frequency of use, and type of fuel being burned. These factors can be determined and further discussed during a first time inspection or annual visit.
